MY EFFORTS TO FIGHT SPAM

I am now using two methods to fight spam. To protect others, I am using images of E-mail addresses on my web pages, instead of using the actual e-mail address. Spammers use spam bots to harvest e-mail addresses from web pages and then send out their spam to them.

To protect myself, I am using multiple e-mail addresses when giving out my address. Since I own the NewsNotes.us domain, I can have unlimited e-mail addresses (any e-mail address that ends in NewsNotes.us). When I give my address to any web site such as Amazon.com, I give them Amazon@NewsNotes.com. I use dell@newsnotes.com for dell, etc. When I get spam from one of the e-mail addresses I have given out, I know who sold my address, and can just close that address. You can do the same thing by getting multiple E-mail addresses. One site offering this service for $10 a year is linked below.

I HEARD FROM THE COOKS AGAIN

Sharon and Jim Cook, major contributors to the teaching of classes for the computer club and instrumental in getting the club room to be as nice as it is, would have been to the park tomorrow but Sharon's Mom is having health problems. Sharon said they hope to be down after Christmas and her E-mail with calling and E-mail instructions are on the web page below.

SAVE JANUARY 19 FOR THE TASTE OF LA FRONTERIA

Last year 50 of us went to Brownsville for The Taste of La Fronteria. It is Monday, Jan 19 at the University in Brownsville. It is a fund raiser for Charro Days. We went last year and it was our favorite and we don't miss many. Tickets are $10 in advance and it is all you can eat and drink presented by the Brownsville, Matamoros and South Padre Island restaurants. Last year it included beer, wine, margaritas, and much bakery and desserts. Because it is all you can eat, they just put the food out on tables eliminating most of the standing in line. Thanks to Edna Tamayo, our Cameron County Precinct 4 Commissioner, I will have tickets in advance so we do not have to buy them at the door. See me if you are interested.

'RECEIVE FAXES' NEEDS TO BE TURNED OFF

When I did the demo on sending and receiving faxes, I mentioned the possible conflict between the fax, your answering machine, and your getting to answer the phone. Val called up and asked how to avoid people calling her getting a terrible screeching sound in their ear. My first thought was that this would work great for telemarketer.

I put the instructions for turning off the ‘Receive Fax' option on the Fax web page.
