THE BEAR RETURNED
It has been 2 years since the bear paid us a visit. Just before midnight, Pam woke me that the bird feeders were knocked over. We looked out and the bear was sitting by the giant pine tree trying to get the suet out of the suet feeder.
I tried taking a picture but didn't have enough light. I am going to have Pam sit by the tree in a black coat at midnight to get some practice.

THE BEAR CAME IN THE MORNING
Pam looked out the door and there was the bear by our hot tub. Maybe he needs a bath. I got my camera and got some great pictures while Pam called my sister to come down. This is the third time he smashed my bird feeder in a week.
Check out the pictures using that great zoom on the Panasonic DMC-FZ1. I can guarantee you the stabilizer helped as there was some shaking going on when he would look my way. I wasn't even thinking of holding the camera steady.

STABILIZED LENS MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE
I forgot to mention that when I took the picture of the loon's egg, I was standing in a paddle boat. I am sure that without the stabilized lens on the Panasonic DMC-FZ1 I could not have gotten that shot. I tend to take it for granted because my Olympus C-2100 has it also.

DIGITAL PHOTOS ACT AS DIARY/HISTORY
If you take photos of everything you do, you can go back and check the date. It also works for time, when I was taking pictures of the bear in our yard, it seemed like a long time. Pam said at least 10 minutes. When I checked, the first picture was at 10:50 and the last one at 10:55.

HIGH SPEED MEMORY CARDS DO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
I got my card and it is 4 x as fast, allows taking pictures faster in succession. When I took 4 shoots in a row, the red dot showing the pictures were being written to the card blinked 12 times with my PNY card but only 3 times with the Simpletech card. This deal had expired 4-30 but has been renewed to 5-30 (last time went to the end of the weekend).
I sent this to those I knew had bought the Panasonic DMC-FZ1. If you bought the FZ1, let me know so I can add you to the list.

I had mentioned looking for a 256MB SD card for the FZ1 camera. I found some that were cheap (Amazon for $43) but there were some comments on the speed of the cards (I think the PNY card I bought was one of the slow ones).
